At the beginning of the year 2007, the European Vision Institute invited nominations for the first European Vision Award, this distinction has the objective to become a prestigious annual award honoring scientists who have made extraordinary contribution to the field of Vision Research.

This year the deadline for applications was set by the 30th April, and eligible for nomination was anyone who has made a notable contribution to the prevention and/or treatment of vision impairment.

We received some very good applications and the evaluation procedure to select the successful candidate was started in mid-May, 2007 and was finalised at the beginning of July. Three independent referees, after an excellent and not easy review, selected a candidate. This successful candidate will be invited to the EVI GA and afterwards there will be an EVI reception for the Award ceremony, a laudatio and keynote lecture hold by the winner.

EVI wants to thank again all the candidates, who, submitting their excellent applications, supported the idea and aim of EVA.
